, the rain started pouring pretty good here. yeah, but steve's been talking about it all morning. we're not expecting huge rain amounts from this storm but the ground is saturated from the storms and some commuters and residents are not taking any chances. we talked by a lumber company in mill valley. owners and employees putting sandbags there and keeping them there because of the rain. this store was flooded past sunday. storeowners tell us after this incident over this past weekend with the recent storms that they just didn't want to take any chances. >> worried about tomorrow morning? >> hopefully, it will be not that bad. >> reporter: we did drive by the store early this morning and it looks like the sand bags are working right there right now. the rain is continuing to pour down here and hopefully the sand bags will prevent any flooding here. on a side note as we take a look at -- i think the biggest concern is the roadways. tara's been talking about it all morning. there were three accidents on the 80. if you are heading out this morning, take it easy on the roadways and slow

the city's manager lafayette city manager steve faulk has been out shopping for a new pipe. >> so this morning, my city engineer and i are meeting with teams of local contractors to determine who if anybody has the type of drain pipe that would be appropriate for that creek. and specifically, we're looking for sections of pipe that are 10 feet in diameter. and so it's not something that you exactly go to home depot and buy off the shelf. typically, you have to order these on a custom basis but we're searching the bay area and in fact all of the entire state to see if anybody has enough sufficient quantity of that size pipe to drop into that hole and if they do, we'll see if we can find a contractor to do it. >> reporter: the city council appropriated some emergency money last night for will faulk. he has a million dollars now from the general fund to get this fixed. earlier estimates that it would take months to do, city council says that's not good enough. they want it fixed as soon as possible. reporting live from lafayette, ken bastida in mobile5. back to you. >>> a woman ridin

of chicago economist steve davis and co-authors, where they have this cool new index. it is a very innovative paper. they estimated that debt limit struggle subtracted about 1.5% from g.d.p. growth during that summer when it was happening because of the uncertainty and the inactivity caused by high levels of uncertainty. eve time we go through there, we bear a negative short-run cost. but if that is what it takes to get spending under control, then we have to concede that in the long run there is a benefit that we don't have these massive deficits crowding out long-term growth. the struggle would depending on whether debt reduction buys space for private capital or not. we may have higher economic growth in the long-run because we went through that struggle. >> so your position is we should be ready to go through that struggle again and in fact default on the national debt if necessary in order to enforce spending limits? >> that is of course not my position. my position is we should never default on the national debt. the politics of debt reduction as you all know better than me are very, ve
